Rejection Is Often Redirection
Have you ever wanted something so bad, that you had to fight tooth and nail to ensure that you get it by every means possible? Could be a job, contract, car, relationship, etc, then unfortunately that thing you so much desired eludes you.
You suddenly begin to doubt your competence and sometimes begin to lose your self-worth because of what you lost or failed to achieve. It's okay to feel emotionally down when things don't go your way, but then don't dwell on that emotion for too long.
Don't let rejection define you. It is very important to separate what happened to you from who you are. According to Bryant McGill, he clearly states that rejection is merely a redirection, a course correction to your destiny.
Perhaps you have ever looked back on something that didn’t work out and realized you’re so glad that the thing you thought you wanted didn’t go your way? This is a perfect example of rejection being redirection.
Permit me to tweak your ideology to present to you a theory that will bring about a paradigm shift in your way of thinking, which you need to adopt to be able to swim against the tides of rejection.
I want you to adopt the mentality that rejection is often a redirection. Take rejection as a redirection, that could be God's way of repositioning you. Albeit, I am not insinuating that you back off immediately once you are rejected.
Sometimes all you need to do is to try harder and voilà! You could be accepted. Of course, you have heard of cases where certain people were told they could not make it in a particular field but they later proved naysayers wrong. All you need is a flexible approach.
Let’s look at the story of Soichiro Honda CEO of Honda automobiles. Honda was turned down by Toyota's major corporation after interviewing for a job as an engineer, leaving him jobless for quite some time.
Not been deterred by rejection, he resorted to making scooters of his own at home, and spurred by his neighbors, he finally started his own business. Today, Honda is the lead Japanese manufacturer of motorcycles and a major producer of automobiles for the world market. Imagine if Honda wasn't rejected, this dream would probably not have come to fruition.
This write-up is in no way encouraging you to be complacent, you ought to always give life your best shot. If you fail at it, you can try again or look inwardly to know if you are holding on to the wrong thing tightly.
"Sometimes, something good has to be subtracted from our lives, before something better can take its place" - Ann Sprangler.
Imagine being denied entry into film School after so many trials, then eventually emerging to be a renowned movie producer. That was the case with Steven Spielberg. He had his fair share of rejection, but today he is one of the most influential people in the history of Cinema.
Rejection doesn't necessarily always mean you should navigate to a whole new path in life, it simply could be you trying out a new approach. Let me suggest to you a pragmatic approach you can implement. When faced with rejection, carefully scrutinize the scenario.
Ask yourself these questions. Do I need to try harder? What other approach do I need to implement?
Is this path a place I am meant to tread?
Whatever conclusions you come up with, it’s left to you to take the decision. Ensure that when you do this, you look at it holistically.
If you notice, I had to juxtapose between pushing harder or trying a different route, but then this write-up places more emphasis on taking rejection as redirection. Sometimes, you need to be rejected to gain the ability to reassess and become more acquainted with different parts of yourself.
Many of the greatest blessings have come out of what was initially perceived as rejection. Setbacks allow us to evolve in ways that we wouldn’t have. Remember some successful people got rejected and failed before they eventually succeeded.
Don't lose hope, trust the process.
This is beautiful!
